So….I’m attending 4 weddings this summer and if you’re like me, you have no plans on spending all of your money on your outfit! No need to tell you that dress shopping has kind of become my specialty these past weeks. Besides wanting to look fabulous for less you want to feel comfortable enough to dance and have fun. So here are the 3 most useful tips (according to me) when shopping to look glamorous at a wedding.
#1 – Know what you want
Before starting to shop, get inspired. Go online, go on social media and look for inspiration with bloggers and influencers. There’s nothing wrong with wanting the affordable version of a dress worn by a celebrity! Also inquire about the dress code at the wedding. Some brides want it casual and others want their guests to look like they’re right out of a fashion magazine. Knowing the dress code will also help you in your decision making process. Other questions that you’d have to ask yourself are: “Am i planning on dancing or is it a cocktail? Is it going to be outside where it’s hot and humid or inside where the air conditioning will turn into my worst enemy? Are we going to be in a garden where high heels won’t be appropriate?” Once you’ve figured out what to go for, go online.
#2 – Look online first
Yep! Look online before going to any malls of dress shops out there. The biggest advantage of online shopping is the ability to choose from virtual stores located anywhere in the world. More and more stores stopped charging shipping fees and brought their level of sophistication up. Some tools have been developed to enhance your shopping experience and bring it closer to the in-store experience. As an example, we have the direct chat with sales representatives and the extremely user friendly phone apps. But my favorite are the super useful videos. Stores like ASOS and Zappos allow you to watch short videos of models wearing their items. By going to the online version of an existing store first (Zara for example), you are able to do a pre-selection of what you like. You therefore spend less time being frustrated while looking for your dress in store and you’re less likely to be intimidated by a sales representative that will direct you towards expensive pieces from the latest collection.
#3 – Set a budget and stick to it
That is quite a key rule for any type of shopping that you are doing. Set a budget and keep in mind that, with the millions of dresses out there, there’s one that will look good on you AND be budget friendly. My advice to you is to let the sales representative know how much money you want to spend upon entering a strore. Online, set the filters to only see items within a certain price range. That way you won’t be tempted to get anything that you’ll regret buying later. Another tip is to go directly for the items on sales. They are usually located at the back end of the store and well identified online. Have fun!
