Hello my ladies! I feel like sharing some major tips with you today. How to put a killer outfit together in 3 easy steps? A lot of women struggle with matching pieces together and still look cool and elegant. The fear that most of us face is to look ridiculous by doing too much or not enough. Right?
We often spend so much time wondering how to put things together and end up wearing that same old shirt over and over again, just because we don’t know how to wear that beautiful yellow dress hanging in our closet. Let me give you an easy 3 step guide that can be of use in any given situation. It will help you look beautiful without looking like anybody else but yourself.
1 – Start with your basics
Yes, start with your basics. Start by choosing what the base of the outfit will be. For example, if you want to achieve a street look, start with your ripped blue jeans. For a night out with your girls, start with your black dress. The base of your outfit is directly linked to the occasion that your are attending or to the general feel that you want to portray. In general, the base is neutral, black or white. Now, you can go with a more elaborate base but the coming steps could be a bit more difficult to achieve. I suggest to go with the prints and patterns on the second step. In this outfit, my base was my light pink pair of jeans and I was going for an everyday look that wouldn’t be too casual. We’ll get to the rest later…
2 – Complement
Now that you’ve chosen your base, comes the time to go a bit further in choosing your matching pieces. This is the trickiest part! Why? Because we misunderstand the true meaning of “matching”. You think that a pair of red pants has to be worn with a red top? That a striped top can’t be matched with a dotted skirt? Wrong. I say, colors and patterns are the least important when it comes to layering and matching. The fit and the overall feel are the key elements that we have to look at. A shirt so tight that your buttons have to be heroes to stay buttoned? A skirt so short that you can’t pick anything up on the floor? Then there’s something wrong with your outfit. We have to wear our clothes like Queens would! Be comfortable and confident in them. They are there to help us and not imprison us. My second and third pieces were my simple black tank top and the cape. Now, wearing that cape, I knew right away that I would need a belt to keep it in place. The process of choosing the belt comes in the third step.
3 – Accessories are here to enhance
Now that we are all dressed up, the accessories are our last chance to make a statement! try, try and try until you find the right combination. Shoes, necklaces and earrings are the most popular pieces and the first to be chosen. This last step either makes or breaks the outfit. It is extremely easy to over-accessorize and to ruin everything that was achieved in previous steps. To avoid that, remember one thing: sometimes, less is more. For this outfit, I chose the shoes first and then decided to go with gold accessories to channel the glitter on the heel of these magnificent shoes! That’s how I picked my bangle, my statement ring, my watch and my discreet gold earrings. For the final statement, I chose a leopard belt and a yellow handbag. I didn’t want the look to be completely neutral!
