Now that we’re a family let’s go ahead and start sharing some secrets. Shall we!? I’ll go first and let you in on 5 secrets that you should absolutely know about. But before we begin, let me ask you a question. Have you ever been around women, so classy, chic and sophisticated that you would ask yourself these questions?
Are they part of a super-secret cult? Are they making 5 times my salary to be able to afford their shoes and other accessories? If yes, then this post is for you. By the way, the answer to the above questions is simply NO. No, those women are not more extraordinary than you. The only difference between them and other women is that they are proactive about finding breakthrough innovations in fashion and beauty. They look for information everywhere, they google anything that comes on their mind, they are not shy to ask questions to people that they admire and they follow the right blogs (e.g. Pop Corn & Paillettes 😉 )
Let me admit to you, my ladies, that I spend HOURS on YouTube watching only tutorials. It goes from hair and makeup tutorials to “how to install an infant car seat” to “how to edit Instagram pictures”. I am much more visual so videos are the ultimate go-to for me. Don’t be scared to look for information on YouTube. The biggest advantage with the YouTube tutorials is that you can save them, watch them over and over again and pause them while watching. Isn’t that great!?
Second hand luxury handbags
So, are you telling me that all this time you thought that they were buying their Louis Vuitton’s from the store? Don’t get me wrong, the majority do, but the new trend is to buy second hand handbags online. As an example, LXR & Co, a Montreal based company, started a few years ago and has a lot of success selling vintage luxury handbags in good condition at a fraction of the original price. I have personally never tried, but it’s something to consider when acquiring luxury items.
I am a huge fan of private sales! It is a good way for brands to get rid of items from their previous collections and a perfect way for us to get stuff that still look good and cost much less than they normally would. I get my winter coats at Rudsak’s private sale, some of my cosmetics at L’Oréal’s and my party dresses at BCBG’s. To get informed, follow them on social media, subscribe to their newsletters and give your email address when attending the sales. If it’s a hassle to subscribe to each brand’s mailing list, you can just subscribe to Pop Corn & Paillettes and we’ll keep you informed. Find the subscription form at the end of this article.
Another thing that I’d love to try is borrowing dresses for special occasions from companies that are specialized in it. Companies like Rent the Runway in the US, Rent Frock Repeat in Canada or Loue 1 Robe in Québec got you covered. They’ll allow you to rent designer and runway dresses for a period of time, wear it and send it back to them when done. It is a fantastic idea when you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars for a dress that you’ll wear only once.
Waist training corsets
Made popular by Kim Kardashian, waist training corsets have been in vogue for quite a few years now. Some women literally swear by it and couldn’t afford to be seen outside without it. Those corset are supposed to sculpt your body into an hourglass shape. They’re able to achieve that by “training” your waist into making itself small. Does it work? Some say yes, others…well. I never tried it since I find it to be a little extreme for my liking.
